Most people will know Jan Dewulf from his work in darker musical genres. He has been active for years as a producer, touring musician, and performer in the dark electro, industrial, and gothic scenes, where he has achieved success with various projects.
Despite his deep roots in these dark music genres, Jan is also a passionate fan of ambient, dub, progressive house, and liquid drum & bass. These genres are extensively explored through his various side projects, all manifestations of his restless musical creativity.
To truly grasp Jan's diverse musical preferences, we must delve into his teenage years, a time when he unearthed his second profound passion amidst the haunting melodies of gothic rock and the pulsating beats of dark electro: the realm of adventurous dance music. The 90s unfurled an exhilarating tapestry of sonic exploration, birthing a myriad of dance music genres profoundly influencing Jan as a producer. Later, around the turn of the century, it was mainly through the Global Underground series that he would discover the realm of progressive house music.
In the studio, he adopts the name J Wølf to explore the progressive house universe, drawing inspiration from DJs like Nick Warren, Hernan Cattaneo, and Pole Folder. Under the J Wølf moniker, Jan has already created remixes for artists such as Lederman & De Meyer (Front 242) and Radioaktivists. Now, as J Wølf, Jan is fully dedicated to producing atmospheric and floating progressive house tracks.
